Science History

History tends to favour some stories over others. My films are about less well known contributors to science. Narrative, artwork and sound, along with historical context give a richer understanding of scientific principles and brings a human dimension to abstract concepts

Sophie Germain was a mathematician and physicist who developed new calculus techniques to analyse vibrations in plates and solved some of Fermat's last theorem

Ruby Payne Scott was one of the first radio astronomers, developing aperture synthesis which greatly increases a detector's resolution

Marietta Blau pioneered imaging techniques to show high energy radiation in the upper atmosphere, evidence for cosmic rays

Eunice Newton Foote analysed the thermodynamic properties of different gasses and in 1856 she described how an atmosphere of high carbon dioxide would hold on to heat more effectively
